To Going Off The Grid: Know All About The New Gucci Sustainable Collection

Conscious fashion is now a movement for fostering change. And remaining stylish while constantly adapting to change is certainly our motto. Gucci also believes that sustainability is about fostering respect: respect for the people we share our planet with as well as the environment. And that's how #GucciOffTheGrid was born!

Gucci Off The Grid is creative director Alessandro Michele's and Gucci's first step towards circularity, a concept where garments are circulated for as long as their maximum value is retained, and then safely returned to the biosphere when no longer needed. Basically drawing a straight line from producer to consumer to landfill.

This collection establishes new ways on how sustainability can power creativity and underline its values, making its way from the fashion system's existing linear model to a circular one. Off the Grid is an extension of Gucci's existing program Circular Lines and #GucciEquilibrium, an ongoing initiative to implement a circular production while supporting people's rights and championing inclusivity and respect, so that everyone in the Gucci Community is free to express their authentic, diverse selves.

Gucci Off The Grid is a 37 piece collection comprising of bags, sneakers, sporty daywear and accessories designed for modern travel. Each item in the collection is thoughtfully made using recycled, organic, bio-based and sustainably sourced materials as well as leftovers from Gucci's manufacturing processes.

Each part of the collection is made from materials like ECONYL, which is a popular regenerated Nylon that can be infinitely recycled. The jackets come in recycled polyester. While the sneakers have a similar construction, with ECONYL uppers, recycled steel eyelets, and organic cotton and viscose linings. The handbags are made of the same ECONYL material, but in bright citrus colors, with metal and chrome-free leather trims and recycled brass hardware.

Gucci's commitment to reducing carbon footprint is reflected in our packaging as well, each item when ordered is shipped in an FSC-certified recycled cardboard box along with a recycled nylon dust bag.

Even though Gucci is one of the few luxury houses to move one-step closer towards the circular fashion economy, our main contribution is not only to educate consumers about sustainable materials like ECONYL and leather scraps but to try and influence other designers to take climate change seriously and invest in a sustainable future as well.

"We usurped nature, we dominated and wounded it." - Alessandro Michele

Through this collection Alessandro Michele has addressed the fashion industry's unethical and wasteful practices. But with Off the Grid, Gucci hopes to restore balance.
